TEACHING IS AN ART

I possess a dual heritage, my parents are of Greek origin,  yet I was born and brought up in South Africa. My background has afforded me an unique outlook on childhood and learning. I received a multi - faceted and vibrant education in my birth place, which has moulded me into the person I am today. When I moved to Greece in the early 1990’s and began to experience the Greek education system, I started to realize that Greek children would benefit immensely by being exposed to a more creative and holistic approach to learning. Children should not be inundated by dull lists of spelling, the rope learning of tiresome grammar rules and the writing of countless incomprehensible exercises. Children should be motivated and confident to speak the English language, not taught the bare minimum in order to obtain a certificate.

I was inspired to set up a school based on my culminated knowledge of two very different systems of education. Slowly but surely I started to change the manner in which English was taught on the island I decided to inject life into English lessons and transform them into fun, interactive and creative experiences, as apposed to traditional, lifeless lessons. It was encouraging to witness my student’s change in outlook when it came to English, it was no longer a school subject but a life skill for them English opens doors and broadens your horizons, it affords individuals experiences and opportunities that people never knew would be open to them. It is this fact that keeps me inspired and passionate each and every day of my life.

We at Myrsini Educational Centre aim to instill the same passion and enthusiasm we hold for the English language into our students. We encourage students to believe in themselves and have confidence in their abilities.
